Day by Day

  • Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport
Here, everything seems out of proportion, from the majestic baobabs that sculpt the landscape to the impressive herds of elephants for which the park is famous. Although popular with safari enthusiasts in northern Tanzania, Tarangire offers a rare tranquillity, especially as you venture south, where nature seems even more unspoilt. The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, from big cats and zebras to hippos, buffalo, wildebeest and many other iconic species. If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the rare African wild dogs that occasionally frequent the park.
  • Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Everything seems to be cast on a grander scale in Tarangire National Park, from the giant baobab trees that bring such personality to the park's landscapes to the massive elephants for which the park is famous. Although a popular place to visit for travelers on safari through northern Tanzania, Tarangire rarely feels crowded, and that becomes even more true the further south you go in the park. Other wildlife to look forward to here includes big cats, zebra, hippo, buffalo, wildebeest and more. If you're really lucky, you might spy the park's transient population of African wild dog.
  • Days 3&4: Serengeti National Park
It's not hard to see why this iconic park fascinates so many visitors. Get ready to see big cats in action, majestic elephants, and almost every species of safari animal you can imagine. Giraffe, impala, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and hundreds of bird species will cross your path, sometimes even before breakfast. And, of course, the Big 5. Every moment is unique, whether it's following a breathless hunt, contemplating an impressive herd or watching a mother protecting her calf. The landscapes of the Serengeti are just as memorable: from the vast golden grasslands dotted with typically African acacia trees to the imposing kopjes, those emblematic rock formations.
  • Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater

This magical site is like no other in Africa. Surrounded by misty forests that encircle the crater rim, the panorama of this ancient volcano's caldera is simply breathtaking. A winding trail leads to the crater floor, where exceptional wildlife awaits. Hyenas, lions, elephants, black rhinoceroses and hippos cohabit this isolated ecosystem, forged over millennia after the volcanic eruption. Every moment spent at Ngorongoro is a marvel, and this experience could well become one of the most beautiful safari moments of your life.

INFORMATIONS

  • In Tanzania, climate and seasonality strongly influence the conditions for a safari. Here's a detailed guide to the seasons and the best time to visit according to your preferences:

Seasons in Tanzania

  1. Dry season (June to October)
    1. Climatic conditions: pleasant temperatures, low humidity, clear skies and little rainfall.
    2. Animal watching: Ideal for wildlife watching, as animals gather around the few watering holes, making it easier to spot them.
    3. Recommended parks: Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park.
    4. Special feature: July to September is the best time to witness the great migration in the northern Serengeti, near the Mara River.
    5.
  2.  Short rainy season (November to December)
    • Weather: Irregular and more moderate rainfall, with occasional showers in the morning and evening.
    • Game viewing: Always favorable for safaris, as the vegetation is greener and denser. Animals are visible, and the scenery is more spectacular.
    • Recommended parks: The Serengeti remains excellent, especially in December, when the great migration begins to return south.
    • Advantage: Fewer tourists than during the high season, offering a more intimate and quiet experience.
  3.
  4. Main rainy season (March to May)
    • Climatic conditions: Frequent rainfall, but generally in the form of short showers. However, some roads in the parks can be muddy or difficult to access.
    • Animal sightings: Animals are more scattered due to the abundance of water, making them a little more difficult to observe.
    • Recommended parks: The Ngorongoro Crater remains accessible and rich in wildlife. However, many parks can be more difficult to access.
    • Benefit: Fewer tourists, and some accommodations offer reduced rates.
  5.
  6. Short dry season (January and February)
    • Climatic conditions: Dry weather with warm temperatures.
    • Game viewing: Excellent time to see the great migration in the Ndutu region, south of the Serengeti. This period is known for wildebeest calving.
    • Recommended parks: The southern Serengeti and the Ndutu region are particularly popular in January and February for observing newborns and hunting predators.
    • Special feature: The landscapes are green and vibrant, offering great opportunities for photography.

General recommendations

  • Best time for a safari: The dry season from June to October is often the most recommended, as it combines good weather conditions with excellent animal visibility.
  • Great Migration: To see the Great Migration, the best time depends on location. From January to March, the migration is in the southern Serengeti, while in July and August, it's in the north near the Mara River.
  • Honeymoons or couples' trips: The short rainy season from November to December and the short dry season in January and February offer green landscapes, fewer crowds and more attractive rates.
  1. Each season has its advantages, so timing depends on your preferences in terms of weather, wildlife viewing and tourist numbers.
