Where the Savannah Stretches to Infinity
A **UNESCO World Heritage Site**, the Serengeti is much more than a national park; it's a living legend. Its name, which means "endless plains" in the Maasai language, perfectly describes the immensity of its landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see.
This park is world-famous for hosting the greatest wildlife spectacle on the planet: the **Great Migration**. Each year, millions of wildebeest and zebras travel thousands of kilometers in search of new pastures, closely followed by their predators. Witnessing this cycle of life is an unforgettable and powerful experience, at the heart of a wild and preserved nature.
The world's greatest wildlife spectacle. Witness the movement of over two million wildebeest and zebras, an endless cycle of life of breathtaking power.
The Serengeti is home to one of Africa's largest lion populations, as well as numerous leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas. The Seronera region is particularly renowned for observing them.
Beyond the predators, the endless plains are populated by an incredible diversity of herbivores: giraffes, buffalo, elephants, hippos, Thomson's and Grant's gazelles, and much more.
The Serengeti is more than just a plain. Discover its multiple facets: the "kopjes" (rocky outcrops) where lions bask, the acacia forests along the rivers, and the vast grassy expanses of the south.
Contrary to popular belief, the Great Migration happens all year round. The question is not "when" to see it, but "where" to be at the right time. Here is the annual cycle to guide you.
Location: Southern Serengeti (Ndutu region).
Spectacle: Hundreds of thousands of wildebeest calves are born in just a few weeks. It's an incredibly moving, but also intense time, as it attracts numerous predators. The landscapes are lush and green.
Location: Western Corridor and central Serengeti.
Spectacle: The herds gather and begin their long journey north. In June, you can witness the first perilous crossings of the Grumeti River, infested with crocodiles.
Location: Northern Serengeti (Mara River).
Spectacle: This is the highlight of the show. Thousands of wildebeest plunge into the waters of the Mara River to reach the plains of the Maasai Mara in Kenya, braving crocodiles and strong currents. This is the peak safari season.
Location: Central and eastern Serengeti.
Spectacle: With the arrival of the short rainy season, the herds begin their descent to the fertile southern plains for the next calving cycle. This is a less crowded and beautiful period.
