Climbing Kilimanjaro via the Classic Marangu Route
Nicknamed the "Coca-Cola" route as it was the first to be commercialized, the Marangu is the oldest and most established trail on Kilimanjaro. It is the only route that offers accommodation in huts (dormitories) at each stage, providing significant comfort.
Its profile of ascending and descending by the same path makes it a shorter trek. However, its rapid 5-day ascent presents a significant acclimatization challenge, resulting in a lower success rate. We strongly recommend it over 6 days, with a crucial acclimatization day at Horombo Hut.

Immersion in the
Rainforest
After completing entry formalities at the Marangu Gate, your trek begins with a fascinating immersion into the heart of the rainforest. The well-maintained trail winds under the shade of immense, moss-covered trees. It’s an enjoyable hike where you'll have a good chance of spotting beautiful black-and-white Colobus monkeys. Arrival at Mandara Hut marks your first successful milestone on the mountain.

Towards the
Kibo Moorlands
Today, you leave the protection of the rainforest to enter the moorland and heather zone. The landscape opens up spectacularly, offering your first stunning views of the Kibo peak. You will discover unique and fascinating vegetation, such as the giant groundsels. The day ends at Horombo Hut, a complex of several wooden buildings where you will spend the night.

Crossing the
High-Altitude Desert
The ascent continues through a landscape that transforms radically. You cross the "saddle," a high-altitude desert stretching between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Vegetation becomes scarce, giving way to a lunar, mineral scenery. Walking is slower due to the altitude, allowing you to conserve your energy. You reach Kibo Hut, the base camp for the final ascent.

The Final Ascent
and Descent
The big day! We depart in the middle of the night, by headlamp light. This is the hardest part, a true mental and physical challenge. Your effort is rewarded by an unforgettable sunrise from the crater rim at Gilman's Point. You walk along the snowy ridge to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m), the Roof of Africa. After the celebration, you begin the long descent back to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved night's rest.

Return and
Celebration
The final walk is a pleasant descent through the moorlands and then the rainforest, on the same path as the ascent, to the Marangu Gate. It’s time to savor your last moments on the mountain, take souvenir photos, and say goodbye to your incredible team. Your driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel for a hot shower and a celebratory dinner to mark your achievement.
