Ngorongoro, a World Wonder

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ngorongoro Crater is not like any other national park. It is the world's largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. Nearly three million years ago, a massive volcano collapsed in on itself, creating this spectacular natural amphitheater.

Today, its 600-meter-high walls shelter an autonomous and incredibly rich ecosystem. Descending into the crater is like entering a lost world where tens of thousands of wild animals coexist in a setting of breathtaking beauty. It is a safari experience of rare intensity.

Boasting one of the highest densities of predators in Africa, the crater is the preferred hunting ground for lions, spotted hyenas, and jackals. Consequently, wildlife encounters are intense and frequent.

Herds of zebras in the crater

Thousands of Herbivores

The fertile floor of the crater provides a constant supply of food for immense herds of wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, and gazelles. In fact, an estimated 25,000 large mammals reside here year-round.

The lake at the center of the crater is a spectacle in itself. It attracts thousands of flamingos, giving the water a pink hue, along with numerous hippos that spend their days lounging in the shallow waters.

When to Visit the Crater?

☀️

Dry Season (Jun - Oct)

This is the most popular time for optimal visibility. With lower vegetation, spotting wildlife becomes much easier. The weather is radiant, offering crystal-clear panoramas of the crater's steep walls. An ideal choice for capturing iconic images of Tanzanian wildlife.

☁️

Wet Season (Nov - May)

The crater transforms into a lush, flowered, and peaceful valley. As the wildlife is resident, it remains spectacularly abundant all year round. You will enjoy rare serenity, far from the tourist crowds, and unique atmospheric light, perfect for an intimate and privileged safari experience.
