Day 1: Arrive in Zanzibar, Walking Tour

Welcome to Zanzibar! This archipelago, situated in the stunning sapphire waters of the Indian Ocean, is East Africa’s most breathtaking island destination. As you arrive at the airport on the main island, you’ll be greeted by your personal driver, who will take you to your accommodation in Stone Town, the historic heart of the city.

Once you’ve settled in, take some time to unwind and relax before embarking on a guided walking tour of this medieval enclave. Stone Town is a vibrant blend of Arabic, African, Indian, and European cultures, all coexisting on its labyrinthine streets. This maze of alleyways, shops, bazaars, and mosques features some of Zanzibar’s oldest and most significant buildings. You’ll visit the 17th-century Arab Fort, a defensive fortification, and other landmarks such as the 19th-century Sultan’s Palace and Anglican Cathedral, as well as the somber site of a former slave market.

Day 2: Beach Day & Spice Tour

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, your personal driver will pick you up for a scenic drive to the northwestern tip of Zanzibar. Here, you’ll discover the luxurious 5-star resort located on the powdery white sands of Nungwi Beach, where you’ll spend the next couple of days indulging in relaxation and adventure.

En route, you’ll visit a countryside spice farm, which has been a vital part of the island’s history since the 16th century when it served as a key trading post between Arabia and India. Zanzibar was a significant producer of cloves, which were harvested by enslaved people, and it earned the nickname “Spice Island” due to its wealth in the 19th century. During the farm tour, you’ll get to taste cloves and other fragrant spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. You’ll also learn about their traditional uses, which range from incense to perfume, and enjoy a farm-to-table lunch.

After checking in to your hotel, you’re free to spend the rest of the day as you wish. You can organize any tours you’d like with the front desk or set out on your own to explore. Nungwi has a lively party scene and plenty of beach clubs, or you can head south to Michamvi Kae for a more peaceful and secluded experience. Other enjoyable activities include cycling around the island, caving, beach yoga sessions, Swahili cooking classes, surfing, and much more.

Days 3-4: Beach Day, Optional Activities

You have the entire day to do as you please. If you’re feeling adventurous, scuba diving is an unforgettable experience that you shouldn’t miss. Zanzibar’s clear waters and coral reefs make it a top diving destination. You can take scuba classes from experienced professionals or go on a more casual snorkeling trip, even if you’re a beginner. Either way, you’ll be surrounded by an underwater paradise filled with exotic marine life, such as rays, turtles, puffers, clownfish, and even whale sharks. You might even get the chance to swim alongside a pod of dolphins.

Kayaking is another fantastic way to explore Zanzibar’s coast. Jump into a one or two-person kayak and paddle leisurely along the stunning white beaches. Or try stand-up paddleboarding with an expert guide by your side. If you’re into fishing, this area is also great for it. The nearby Pemba Channel is home to six different types of billfish, and you can catch trophies such as yellowfin tuna, wahoo, king mackerel, barracuda, and marlin.

Another great activity to consider is a sunset cruise, perfect for solo travelers or couples looking for a romantic experience. Hop aboard a traditional dhow (wooden sailboat) in the late afternoon and sail around the peaceful waters with a glass of champagne in hand as you watch the stunning vermillion sunset. These tours often stop at charming little islands where you can stroll the white-sand beaches amid ancient baobab trees. Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins swimming alongside the boat!

Day 5: Depart Zanzibar

After breakfast, head out and enjoy one last morning on the beach. Later in the afternoon, you’ll transfer to the airport for your flight home. Safe travels!
